You can apply a maximum of 2 of our 18 available categories to each of your Sketchfab models. To assign a category, see Model Properties. You should choose the most accurate and specific category or categories for your scene.
Adding categories helps improve your model's Discoverability and search results. This article describes each category and provides examples. We understand that there may not always be one perfect choice, and we leave the decision up to the artist. However, the Sketchfab team will moderate cases where content categorization is debatable and reserves the right to make the final decision.
The 18 categories are: Animals & Pets, Architecture, Art & Abstract, Cars & Vehicles, Characters & Creatures, Cultural Heritage & History, Electronics & Gadgets, Fashion & Style, Food & Drink, Furniture & Home, Music, Nature & Plants, News & Politics, People, Places & Travel, Science & Technology, Sports & Fitness, and Weapons & Military.
Animals & Pets
Representations of animals - both realistic and stylized. You can put dinosaurs here too! Fantasy animals belong in Characters & Creatures instead, and fossils are a better fit for Science & Technology.
Architecture
Architectural or stylized scenes depicting buildings, realistic or stylized. Interior scenes and objects like furniture belong in the Furniture & Home category.
Art & Abstract
Any classical or abstract art, including 3D interpretations of classical works, abstract work, and installations. Exception: work that could be more specifically classified as Cultural Heritage & History.
Cars & Vehicles
This is the right place for all moving vehicles, including fantasy and Science-Fiction vehicles like spaceships. If the focus of the scene is on an environment or character rather than the vehicle itself, Places & Travel may be a better match.
Characters & Creatures
Fictional people or animals. Realistic characters can go here or in People at the artist's discretion, though fantasy characters are generally recommended for this category rather than People.
Cultural Heritage & History
Objects, artefacts and visualisations directly related to the history of life on Earth and intended for the education and instruction of viewers in the field of cultural heritage - for example, 3D scans of real historical places or museum antiquities. Fantasy content merely inspired by history (e.g. a fantasy viking character) belongs in Characters & Creatures instead.
Electronics & Gadgets
Any scenes or assets representing actual or fictional products, or designs of such products, and their components.
Fashion & Style
Scenes relating to fashion and style: clothing, accessories, and fashion-related celebrities. This is often a more specific match than People or Electronics & Gadgets (e.g. for watches).
Food & Drink
Any models where the focus is on food or drink related items, realistic or stylized. A restaurant or diner scene is a better match for Places & Travel.
Furniture & Home
Any interior architecture scenes, furniture, furniture concepts, or household objects, realistic or stylized.
Music
Any scenes related to music and sound, like musical instruments and DJ/sound equipment. Scenes featuring music celebrities should be posted here rather than in People as this is more specific.
Nature & Plants
Any scenes representing actual nature. If the focus of a scene is more on landscape/nature than a single animal, this is a better match than Animals & Pets. Fantasy nature scenes belong in other categories, such as Places & Travel.
News & Politics
Scenes that represent or illustrate any news-related stories, historical events, or (caricatures of) politicians - a more specific match than People. Everyday objects like a newspaper stand belong in Furniture & Home instead.
People
Actual people, whether 3D scans or stylized, including actors and other real individuals. Models not based on actual people belong in Characters & Creatures.
Places & Travel
Scenes that offer an extensive and immersive experience of "being in another place." This category can contain both actual and fictional places.
Science & Technology
Actual (not fictional) technological or scientific content. Exceptions apply when a more specific category is available - for example, museum pieces belong in Cultural Heritage, and fictional "sci-fi" vehicles belong in Cars & Vehicles.
Sports & Fitness
Any scenes associated with sports, sports equipment, or sports celebrities - generally a more specific match than People or Fashion & Style.
Weapons & Military
You can use this category for any kind of weaponry, including realistic, stylized, and fantasy weapons, as well as related game props or environments. It's okay to put models into two different categories when appropriate.
