Every Sketchfab user has the ability to download select 3D models. You can specifically search for downloadable models (by toggling "Downloadable" in the Sketchfab search bar), or go to our dedicated Downloads page.
Available for Download
A 3D model is only free to download if the owner enables it.
You can tell if a model is available for download if you see Download 3D Model below the viewer on the model page (like in the image below).
Clicking Download 3D Model will offer the following:
- the original file that the author uploaded, along with any texture, material, and extra files that were included
- a transcoded glTF version of the model
- various GLB versions of the model with different texture resolutions
- a transcoded USDZ version, which can load in Apple Quick Look
Unavailable for Download
If the Download 3D Model link is not visible on the model page (like the screenshot above), the user has decided not to make their model downloadable.
Licenses
Each downloadable model is offered under a Creative Commons license, which means if you download a free 3D model and you want to use it or build upon it, you need to credit the creator (except for CC0).
If you're unsure how you can use a downloadable 3D model, review the details of the corresponding Creative Commons license:
- CC BY - Attribution: depending on the NC, ND, and SA choices, others may share, edit, and use the model, but they must give you credit for the original work.
- CC BY-NC - NonCommercial: others cannot use your model commercially
- CC BY-ND - NoDerivatives: others may use and share the model, but it cannot be altered.
- CC BY-SA - ShareAlike: depending on the NC choices, others may share, edit, and use the model, but derivative work must be shared under the same license.
- CC0 - Public Domain: No Rights Reserved
No Derivatives and ShareAlike are mutually exclusive.
If the model author changes the license after you download it, that's ok, but the the license you received it under will always prevail. Per the Creative Commons rules:
"The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms."
For information on the licenses available for non-free Store models, see Licenses.

Hi Sketchfab team, I have uploaded my models through Skanect by using the API. Therefore haven't used the Sketchfab dialogue to switch the Download option on. Can you please let me know how to switch it on after the upload through partner apps, I cannot seem to find the command in the menus. Thanks. UCL Digifest.
@ucldigifest
Hi - If you're using the free version of Skanect, you won't be able to turn on downloading for your models. This is in the interest of Skanect Pro, which is otherwise required to export model files.
Thank you James. I see. We have an educational license for version 1.4.0 of Skanect, not Pro. We will have to go through exporting the file and uploading it in your dialogue. Thanks.
Hi, I see some models that have the download info and controls displayed, but the download button is greyed out and clicking it returns a "The requested file is not available yet. Please try again later." Do you know what is causing this ?
Thanks,
/C.
@c0mas - There's a bug sometimes if you turn on download during the upload process. Download needs to be turned off and then back on again. We're working on it!
For some reason mine doesn't give me the option to allow to download. It use to before it upgraded to Pro but now it doesn't even appear , only says to make private and allow 3D Print......
@sulside - We introduced a bug; the download option will be restored ASAP. Sorry about that!
Hi, I saved a model to sketchfab.com from Skanect, but am now unable to download it as a .obj file (only as a ply). The model was generated by the Structure sensor. Is there an option to enable .obj downloads?
@edsilv - Hi, Sketchfab only lets you download whatever was originally uploaded. We don't do any transcoding/converting (yet).
You'll either need to upload models in OBJ format (I recommend itSeez3d + Structure + Sketchfab), or convert the PLY in other software (I recommend MeshLab).
The download button does not seem to be working. Is the system down today or is there some other problem. I have not been able to figure out why downloading is not working. When I hit the down load button nothing happens. If I try to right click it and open in another tab it opens the model page in another tab and does not download. Any help would be appreciated.
@mutt2050 - This is a known issue. We're working on a fix.
ok thanks
@mutt2050 - The fix is live. Thanks for your patience!
Hey I was wondering if there is an option to see who downloaded your model?
I can see who liked my model, but I think it's somewhat more interesting to know who downloaded it.
Is it possible?
Thanks.
Hey @bez, not yet, but I'll add your '+1' to this feature request.
James
I've been doing this without issue but this morning I don't see the "Allow Download" toggle on my models, for ones that I've shared or new ones I upload. I tried logging out and back in again but the problem persists. Has the location of the toggle changed or is there a bug? Thanks!
Hi @codame
I'm afraid that the download feature has been blacklisted for itSeez3D uploads at their request because of their new pricing structure.
James
@hansolocambo - It's not possible at the moment, but you could enable download, get your files, then disable it again.
Hi!, i'm having problem with when ever i open the downloaded file i only see a box just like when u start a new file in blender.
@chfhrskan123 - Hmm, that's weird. Can you post the link to the model?
Every single one of the models I have been downloaded had a same issues, it might be something really basic thing that causing the problem but I just don't know because I'm new when it comes to 3d😅, is there a special way to open the file? because what I do is I just open the object file or MTL file in source folder . Most recent file I checked was 2B by Kimchi_Load and it had a same problem with others.
@chfhrskan123 you obviously need to spend some of your time learning a few basics ;) Read around what's an obj and an mtl before trying to blindly open files without having an idea of what their extension means :
OBJ holds the mesh information : position of each vertex, UV mapping (UV = XY axis for 2D textures), faces' normals, vertex color, etc.
MTL is your OBJ's "companion file" containing the surface shading (material) properties for your 3D object. Values of ambient, diffuse, specular, transparency, emission and so on.
If you import for example a "MyObject.obj", just keep the "MyObject.mtl" in the same folder and all will be fine. It's a bit like opening a "MyMovie.MP4" with a "MyMovie.SRT" for subtitles in the same folder : you open the MP4 and the SRT is loaded automatically by your player. Google search "how to import an obj" and you'll find your answers.
Because OBJ is a format common to all 3D apps and softs, you'll usually find it in an "import" menu rather than an "open" menu.
Good luck with your googling. It's always good to read forums around as someone always had a similar issue on close to any subject and the web is often more a marvelous place to find answers than ask questions. And keep whatever objects you downloaded from Sketchfab. Those are fine, your issues are coming from whatever 3D software you decided to download (would have been wiser to tell us here which one). Spend a few days learning it and all will suddenly feel axiomatic.
Cheers.
Thank you so much for answering my question!, I actually have been searching for an answer on Google but couldn't help my self with any of the information I have found, probably because of my lack of English skill😳

@jaypatel sorry I can not understand what you mean.
Are you trying to say you having a same problem with I did
@jaypatel Sorry for the confusion. The Properties option is now in the Manage This Model menu. I've updated this page.
Hello, how do I allow download such that it also lets the users download the settings which i did on sketchfab, for example, color/contrast settings, background changes, etc. Please help!
On this thread, it says "You will receive the original file that the author uploaded, along with any texture and material files. However, textures that were added manually in the Material Editor will not be included (yet)."
Please enlighten me on how to include them! thanks!
Pranav.
Hi Pranav - Actually, the download will include textures added in the editor. I just updated that article, thanks!
Post-processing filters, background, and other Scene settings are all part of our viewer and cannot be downloaded - sorry!
