Sketchfab supports many 3D file formats, including most of today's popular exchange formats.
To learn how to upload, visit Uploading 3D Models.
If your favorite file format is not listed below, you could try converting your file or using one of our native or integrated Exporters, including Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, Substance Painter, and many more!
Recommended file formats
File format/type | File name |
.obj* |
Alias Wavefront |
.blend | Blender |
.fbx | Autodesk Filmbox, FBX |
.gltf (+.bin), .glb | GL Transmission Format |
*OBJ files should almost always come with an MTL material library file. Both should be uploaded together, along with any textures. See Uploading 3D Models for more details.

"Kerbal Space Program (.mu)"
The .mu files are only parts, you guys need to support whole .craft files! That would be awesome!
@dunealex - yep, we're looking into it!
@James I´d love to give your response a "like"^^.
I bet once you come up with .craft support, this place will be overrun by the KSP community :D That means many happy clicks for you. You should also announce it on the Kerbal forums! I bet somebody will anyways, but it would be much better if you do yourself. This is going to be THE way to show off crafts. There´s nothing comperable to this. Will it be possible to embed those interactive pics directly into forums and social media (like f8)?
I am sure am not the first one to ask but 3DM support pliiiiiiz. Grasshopper is a good integration but also an extra step that isn't necessary. It would actually make more sense to create a Rhino plugin directly imho, since all gh user use rhino, but not all rhino users us gh.
@eth3r - Thanks for the feedback. We'd love a Rhino plugin, too! We haven't found a developer to do it for us yet, so if you know someone, send them my way :)
I don't personally, but from the top of my head, the guy that did the grasshopper one should be more than qualified. Also, and I know this is not the right place for it but still, you guys really need mobile integration. I just tried looking at a model from my ipad and it was not orbiting properly. Besides these details, you guys are doing an aweosme job, keep it up.
why is maya .mb and .ma not listed anymore? 6 months ago it was and now it isn't?
@bsg_dimaggio - Sorry, we have never supported Maya Binary or Maya ASCII files, and this list has never included them.
I would recommend using the Maya exporter or exporting manually as FBX or another format.
Hello,
Since 6 Months I get error messages on trying to upload DWF-files. ( upload goes on to 50% then apperars "error while converting".
This happens with DWF´s made with Inventor & 3DS Max.
What´s wrong?
@kaadesign - Hi, we're having some trouble with DWF processing right now, but we're working on it. Have you tried the 3ds Max exporter?
What about stp / step?
It is a far more common exchange format in serious engineering than all of the above and allows the collaboration with a lot of 3D CAD software like UG/NX, Catia, ProE, ....
We have tested the .stl format which seems to be the only that NX is able to handle properly but we lose some information during the export and import.
Would it be possible to upload like both types, ie .stl for the viewer but offer the .stp for download as well?
@James,
Hello,
actually I get no error message while uploading directly from Autodesk Inventor addon, but there is no model shown after.
There is only a blank screen and the info window says "0 faces & 0 vertices.
@lindehydraulics - Anything you include in an uploaded ZIP files will be preserved for downloading. So, if you want users to have an extra STEP file or anything else, just include it in your upload.
@kaadesign - It might be related to the way your assemblies are organized (I don't know Inventor very well...) Could you export a DWF manually and send it to us? support@sketchfab.com
Excuse me .. when will we be able to upload in c4d format ?
@zedelement - it's not on our short term road map. However, C4D can export many of these supported formats natively, and we also have a C4D plugin
Hi, I have a .dwf model that I've tried uploading about 5 different times; each time it says it will email me when it finished processing but it's been a week and still no models are present in my upload; I was wondering what my problem might be? It uploads successfully within a few minutes each time, just never processes.
@ryanpm40 - What software are you using to create the file? Would you mind sending me a sample DWF so we can take a closer look? support@sketchfab.com
Is there no way to view solidworks files? .Sldprt, .prt, .dwg, .u3d, .x_t, .x_b files are not supported!
@josephashley - have you tried the SolidWorks Exporter?
I believe it uses VRML.
So which formats ZBrush users can opt for? .OBJ only? The problem is that I converted a Tool to .OBJ and the file is over 800 MB...
@lgidc - I believe OBJ is the only supported format natively out of ZBrush, unless there are additional file format plugins, or you have access to Maya and export .ma and then export something else from Maya (e.g. FBX).
However, OBJs usually compress very efficiently. You should be able to reduce that 800MB quite a bit using high compression ZIP, or better, 7z.
If you only have a Basic account, though, you'll need to get it all the way down to 50MB. For this you'll probably have to do some heavy decimation in ZBrush. Have you tried our ZBrush Exporter? It includes its own (variable) decimation step:
@James
So, any news on Kerbal Space Programm .craft file support? It´s been 4 months now.
Thx in advance!
@James
Is there a special sketchfab email adress, where I can send my DWF files for inspecting, created with Inventor?
These files still don´t work on Sketchfab.
BTW... Sketchfab changed Background Picture sharpness,- now level 1 is too unsharp... would like to choose more sharpness.
Regards Alex
@dunealex
No news yet, but we're still working in it!
@kaadesign
You can send sample files to me (support@sketchfab.com) we can take a look. However, we have a fix coming for DWF next week that I think will solve the problem with Inventor exports.
'0 Blur' is coming back soon!
All point clouds can not browse, someone noticed it?
@mark.energy - Point clouds are working for me. Can you give us some more information?
Hello! James :
You can ? that's weird...I tried three computers, any point cloud files can not be viewed. (only to see the empty scene)
Can you try these three? by three authors :

Hi Mark,
My apologies, there is a bug - we'll get it fixed ASAP. You can follow the discussion here: http://forum.sketchfab.com/t/issue-with-point-cloud-models/1736
Hello. Every time I try to use the exporter in Cinema 4D, i keep getting this error <urlopen error unkown url type:https>
What does this mean? Also I am a bit confused as to how to "optimize" my scene for upload.
I know these probably seem like no brainer questions but if someone could lend me a hand, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
