Click on the Upload button that’s available on the top-right corner of any Sketchfab page. You’ll then be prompted to choose the file(s) you’d like to upload - just make sure it is one of our supported file formats!
Or you can click, drag, and drop your file(s) anywhere on the site, like below:
ZIP Upload
To reduce file size, you can also combine your files into a compressed archive (ZIP, RAR, 7z). Make sure to include all the necessary files.
- Your texture files (JPG, PNG, TIFF, TGA, etc.)
- Your material file, if you're using OBJ format (MTL)
- Your model file
Textures can be in the root directory or in a subfolder. It should look something like this (OBJ + MTL, for this example):
If you plan to allow downloading, you can also include any other files you'd like to share, like photographs of 3D prints, instructions, multiple file formats, etc.
Uploading & Processing
Once you have your file(s) ready:
- Click Upload ( or drag and drop on any page )
- Click Choose File and navigate to the file on your device
- Click Continue.
- Give your model a title and description, choose a category, and add some tags
- Once the transfer is complete, click Save or Save & Publish to go to your new model!
Depending on the complexity of your scene, it may take some time to finish processing. Once it's finished, your model will begin in Draft Mode.
Exporter Upload
To make uploading easier, we’ve partnered with 3D tool developers and built a number of exporters so you can upload your 3D files directly from your 3D software.
Here is how they usually work:
- Download an Exporter or software with built-in support
- Install it on your machine
- Enter your API token or follow the OAuth login flow
- Fill in model metadata like title, description, tags
- Upload your model!
For details on a specific software, check out the Exporters page or the Tutorials section.
Upload Limits
The number of models you can upload and publish each month depends on your Sketchfab plan, as well as certain attributes of the models. For more details, check out the Upload Limits guide.
Uploads Page
The Uploads page on your profile shows an overview of your uploads and their status, along with more detailed error messages in case your upload failed.

@streetlightgraphics - That's weird. What software and file format? Can you send me a link to the model and/or send me the original file? support@sketchfab.com Thanks!
Hello sketchfab help - had no problem at all uploading my first model via the built-in uploader in Agisoft Photoscan. I want to share this model with someone, but I also want to work on it more. Is it possible to send them the link and re-upload the model and have that same link work ? Or is a new link created everytime a model is uploaded or re-uploaded ? In Vimeo, I can replace the video file but the video link stays the same. Can't seem to find it in the knowledge database. Thanks ! Michael
@mikefilmguy - Hi Michael! If you use the "Re-Upload" feature, the URL will stay the same, so your links will still work. More details here:

Hi @James ! I've just uploaded a model of a Chinese oracle bone: https://sketchfab.com/models/96f9ae59a49b4a70a0c9b961602efcab
For some reason, the initial view showed the bone as tiny (I zoomed in and saved view so it looks bigger). This makes it hard to rotate the model easily. Not sure if the problem is in the original model - scale, or bounding box alignment? I couldn't locate the problem. Perhaps you could have a look?
@adiks - Hi Adi!
I'm not exactly sure what the issue was on that model, but we do have some bounding-box bugs on our end (fix coming in the next release).
I improved the navigation for you by adjusting the up axis and moving it into a better position. How is it for you now?
Thanks @James for doing this so quickly! Works great now, many thanks!
Hello. any Modo user here? I would love to get some idea why I can not upload using the exporter any more.
I have been able to upload my models directly from Modo a week ago, but now I keep getting the HTTPerro=400 error message each time I upload :(
I have not done anything differently, weird!
@jou - it looks like your Pro account ended recently? Are you trying to upload a model with private/password enabled? It will throw 400 if you don't have a Pro account.
James, thanks for the quick reply. I did check to ensure that I did't have the "private" box checked. The password is for for uploading to the account, correct? I did put my password there. I also re-copied& pasted the API key just to be sure.
I am on Mac OS, I also turned off firewall to see it makes any difference. but so far, no luck.
The work-around for now is exporting the model as obj, then upload the texture separately. It works, but not as convenient as the Modo exporter...one magic click!
While I am at it, James, do you know if there's a way to duplicate my models. I really love the re-upload feature and I have a few models that shared the same assets. Since I already applied the texture/light eat. to one of themodel, it would be great if I could swap out the mesh and have the same setting applied the the new one by duplicating and re-uploading the mesh.
James, I figured it out. It is the password!. I have to leave it blank. I thought it was require to log into my account through the exporter, but looks like the password is just for the private model.
I'm trying to upload a character model using the Blender to Sketchfab exporter. Upload is only 7.4Mb. The character was rigged with Blender's Rigify armature and has about 8 seconds of animation. I added bones to the Rigify armature to animate a cape and a tail (character is a cat). Model loads and animates perfectly in Unity and looks really good in game. For some reason, the model displays in Sketchfab with missing limbs (arms, legs). Only the torso, head and tail show up. The body is a single object so its weird only parts of it are missing. The animation seems to go on but without arms to hold the sword. I don't want to apply the armature modifier because I don't want to freeze my model in a pose. The whole idea is to show the animation. Any recommendations on how to fix this problem?
Hi @jou - Glad you figured it out. That password field it to add a password to a private model. The API token is your account authentication. It may change to username/password in a future update of the plugin.
@isbadan Can you post the model URL?
Ok I just uploaded it again. URL is https://sketchfab.com/models/63e50f486ee4410787dfaee37225310d
I don't really want to publish him looking like this though. Thanks for the quick rely.
Also you'll notice the textures for the cape, belt, hat and eyes turned out black. but the jacket and what shows of the body are ok.
I tried uploading a packed model (including external data) with armature modifier applied just so you can view the whole model for comparison but I got a python error saying "Upload failed. error: forbidden" from the exporter. Is this because I currently have an uploaded model not yet published?
and also weird is the beauty shot in the preview window shows him intact in rest/T-pose which suggests to me the whole model including all textures were uploaded but the animation display view still has hidden portions and several textures are missing.
Thanks! I made him private so your profile won't show a broken model. We're investigating!
Not sure if this would help your investigation but I noticed in Blender that if I have User Preferences not set to 'Auto Run Python Scripts' that my model gets all distorted by the armature when I close/re-open the file. Wondering if same thing happens to my uploads because my model looks squashed in a similar way. Python scripts are required for Rigify to work.
Hello,
I can not install the plug-in "Sketchfab Exporter" in cinema 4d. Error "unable to install necessary files. please check the help for information on manual module installation".
I export and place the folder "Sketchfab C4D Exporter" in the plugin directory and place the folder “poster-0.8.1.zip” in preferences folder for Cinema 4D.
Anyone knows what the problem is?
Thank you
@schframe - I think you need to place the whole "Sketchfab-C4D-Exporter" folder, including the "res" folder with poster zip in the plugin directory.
@James - thanks for your answer.
I've done it and not solved the problem. (windows 8.1)
@schframe - Hmm ok. What version of C4D?
@James - R16
@schframe - Thanks, we're investigating. For now, you can manually export and upload one of our supported formats. I recommend FBX.
@isbadan - Sorry for the long silence. You're right, it's related to the Python scripts. For security reasons, we cannot automatically run additional scripts, like the Rigify stuff.
so we have to download exportor to have an modle
@catlover0212 - Not necessarily, you can upload many file formats directly: https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/202508396-3D-File-Formats
Hi,
I am not able to upload my models on your site. I get an UPLOAD ERROR. My net connection is working fine & model size is under 30MB.
Still no solution. The .zip is structured as mentioned on your website. Is there any server issue on sketchFab. Amazing thing was same
model could be uploaded using Photoscan software. But i need to upload directly on sketchfab without using any other utility. PLZ HELP
@amit3d Can you send me a link to one of the failed uploads or the original file(s)? ( support@sketchfab.com )
