Click on the Upload button that’s available on the top-right corner of any Sketchfab page. You’ll then be prompted to choose the file(s) you’d like to upload - just make sure it is one of our supported file formats!
Or you can click, drag, and drop your file(s) anywhere on the site, like below:
ZIP Upload
To reduce file size, you can also combine your files into a compressed archive (ZIP, RAR, 7z). Make sure to include all the necessary files.
- Your texture files (JPG, PNG, TIFF, TGA, etc.)
- Your material file, if you're using OBJ format (MTL)
- Your model file
Textures can be in the root directory or in a subfolder. It should look something like this (OBJ + MTL, for this example):
If you plan to allow downloading, you can also include any other files you'd like to share, like photographs of 3D prints, instructions, multiple file formats, etc.
Uploading & Processing
Once you have your file(s) ready:
- Click Upload ( or drag and drop on any page )
- Click Choose File and navigate to the file on your device
- Click Continue.
- Give your model a title and description, choose a category, and add some tags
- Once the transfer is complete, click Save or Save & Publish to go to your new model!
Depending on the complexity of your scene, it may take some time to finish processing. Once it's finished, your model will begin in Draft Mode.
Exporter Upload
To make uploading easier, we’ve partnered with 3D tool developers and built a number of exporters so you can upload your 3D files directly from your 3D software.
Here is how they usually work:
- Download an Exporter or software with built-in support
- Install it on your machine
- Enter your API token or follow the OAuth login flow
- Fill in model metadata like title, description, tags
- Upload your model!
For details on a specific software, check out the Exporters page or the Tutorials section.
Upload Limits
The number of models you can upload and publish each month depends on your Sketchfab plan, as well as certain attributes of the models. For more details, check out the Upload Limits guide.
Uploads Page
The Uploads page on your profile shows an overview of your uploads and their status, along with more detailed error messages in case your upload failed.

I tried it, but it is not possible, it has 420MB. If you have any advice, please. I deleted the texture.

and is there any way to reduce it? Thanks
Trying to zip, I'll see. I'll let you know.
I understand But when you wrote 500 MB, it should not have an impact. Then is this shameful advertisement?
I got it to work by exporting OBJ from blender. I will send the link to the email thread.
What influences the speed of loading the model on the phone?
Does the texture size affect download speed or only the number of polygons?
In what format is it better to load an apartment model so that it is better processed and loaded on the phone?
@stereoaddress
You can read all about model download and performance here: https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/201766675-Viewer-Performance
The file format you upload will not necessarily affect the final performance because everything is converted to our own format in the viewer. Depending on the 3D software, some formats are more efficient than others. Typically I would recommend OBJ (+MTL) or FBX.
Good afternoon! and is there any list of phones on which there will be no problems with the reproduction of models?
Or what is the ratio of the characteristics of the model and the characteristics of the phone?
There is no permanent list. It completely depends too much on the specific model.
And on what indicators should you pay attention when downloading the model, so that it works optimally on the phones?
Is it possible to determine and say that one of these models will be much (and how much) optimized for phones
1) https://skfb.ly/6t68I
2) https://skfb.ly/6vxGV
Again, it depends on many variables: https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/201766675-Viewer-Performance
Both of those models should perform ok on phones.
https://skfb.ly/6t68I has far fewer polygons and textures, but more geometries, and the animation adds complexity.
https://skfb.ly/6vxGV has a lot more polygons and textures, but fewer geometries and no animation.
The best thing to do is test.
Hi James,
Had partial success using exporter from Unity to Sketchfab for one of our large photoscanned models...
Basic workflow: Reality Capture > Retopo to lowpoly > Reality Capture reproject UVs > photoedit UV > export png (& jpg) > import all to Unity & looks great with edited textures at 8k resolution on mesh ....
Using Sketchfab exporter, I can upload the model/mesh but it doesn't upload the texture automatically and I can't get the manual import right ...
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? if you can access, the last upload is sitting unpublished on our account....
Can you tell me why on the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge model is very much freezes and it is not possible to look at VR. At the same time on the iphone 7 everything is fine.
Version Android 7.0
Kernel version 3.18.14-12365438
Do you see that on every model or just some specific model?
Only on one model!
On others did not check
Ok, the model might be too complicated, can you please share the link?
https://skfb.ly/6vLJv
https://skfb.ly/6wGRD
Those are both fairly complex, especially the number of textures. Could you try a really simple model such as this one to make sure it's not just the phone? https://sketchfab.com/models/442c548d94744641ba279ae94b5f45ec
i still cant work...
i dont know why
i use 3dmax2016 and archive my 3D+ material file.
Upload file later always error!!!!!
@JSRM Have you tried the 3ds Max Exporter plugin? https://sketchfab.com/exporters/3dsmax
Hi,
We've been trying to upload a 3D Max .FBX model for the past few days to no avail. Here are some points in relation to our issue and what we have already tried to resolve:
- Attempted to upload 35MB model file - upload failed with no error code provided "unknown error"
- Compressed model in 3D Max to 16MB file size - same issue occurred
- Reduced polygons as much as possible - same issue
Our designer is now attempting to remove detail in the model (nuts and bolts etc.) but this is unacceptable to us as it's the realistic nature of the model which provides value to our end client.
Please help!!
@sms3d Hi, can you share the link(s) to the failed uploads?
Thanks!
if the Speed of the Internet is low, for example, as I have 2m / bit, the download is interrupted, and I have to load textures of 4k size separately, which is dont convenient, if you made the timing of the delay a little more, then probably the error would have disappeared
Here such error takes off

Hi James!

I use 3Ds Max + Corona and I try to unload model following by your instructions. It is my test and very simple
model, only walls and floor. After unloading I see only color, without textures. Do I understand correct that I should upload textures additionally?
Hello!
Have you tried the 3ds Max Exporter plugin? It should be able to bake your materials into textures and upload automatically:
https://sketchfab.com/exporters/3dsmax
Hello, if my model consists of multiple obj components, each obj has its own mtl and texture. Does it support multiple obj models? I tried to compress all the files into a zip package and upload them only, but only one of them was shown in the end. If so, what should I do?
@felixcky if you include an empty file named "sketchfab.zbrush" in with all your OBJs/MTLs/textures, we will combine them all into a single model.
