Click on the Upload button that’s available on the top-right corner of any Sketchfab page. You’ll then be prompted to choose the file(s) you’d like to upload - just make sure it is one of our supported file formats!
Or you can click, drag, and drop your file(s) anywhere on the site, like below:
ZIP Upload
To reduce file size, you can also combine your files into a compressed archive (ZIP, RAR, 7z). Make sure to include all the necessary files.
- Your texture files (JPG, PNG, TIFF, TGA, etc.)
- Your material file, if you're using OBJ format (MTL)
- Your model file
Textures can be in the root directory or in a subfolder. It should look something like this (OBJ + MTL, for this example):
If you plan to allow downloading, you can also include any other files you'd like to share, like photographs of 3D prints, instructions, multiple file formats, etc.
Uploading & Processing
Once you have your file(s) ready:
- Click Upload ( or drag and drop on any page )
- Click Choose File and navigate to the file on your device
- Click Continue.
- Give your model a title and description, choose a category, and add some tags
- Once the transfer is complete, click Save or Save & Publish to go to your new model!
Depending on the complexity of your scene, it may take some time to finish processing. Once it's finished, your model will begin in Draft Mode.
Exporter Upload
To make uploading easier, we’ve partnered with 3D tool developers and built a number of exporters so you can upload your 3D files directly from your 3D software.
Here is how they usually work:
- Download an Exporter or software with built-in support
- Install it on your machine
- Enter your API token or follow the OAuth login flow
- Fill in model metadata like title, description, tags
- Upload your model!
For details on a specific software, check out the Exporters page or the Tutorials section.
Upload Limits
The number of models you can upload and publish each month depends on your Sketchfab plan, as well as certain attributes of the models. For more details, check out the Upload Limits guide.
Uploads Page
The Uploads page on your profile shows an overview of your uploads and their status, along with more detailed error messages in case your upload failed.

James,
Can you contact me privately? I received an emailed copy of your responses, but it is from a no reply account. I would like to find out more about the 100 material restriction and my PRO account.
Thank you
@wkblack it's not possible with a file, but you can use the Data API to upload models with metadata:
https://sketchfab.com/developers
Hmm ok, you will probably need to export a different format or convert it in other software.
ya no problem delete that post... that was the full log though. ill send it to ya too.
nevermind, I need help with the animation. I'm stuck on trying to get an animation for my character.
Hi,
That link does not work :(
James, thanks for the quick reply. I did check to ensure that I did't have the "private" box checked. The password is for for uploading to the account, correct? I did put my password there. I also re-copied& pasted the API key just to be sure.
I am on Mac OS, I also turned off firewall to see it makes any difference. but so far, no luck.
The work-around for now is exporting the model as obj, then upload the texture separately. It works, but not as convenient as the Modo exporter...one magic click!
While I am at it, James, do you know if there's a way to duplicate my models. I really love the re-upload feature and I have a few models that shared the same assets. Since I already applied the texture/light eat. to one of themodel, it would be great if I could swap out the mesh and have the same setting applied the the new one by duplicating and re-uploading the mesh.
Hi James,
Had partial success using exporter from Unity to Sketchfab for one of our large photoscanned models...
Basic workflow: Reality Capture > Retopo to lowpoly > Reality Capture reproject UVs > photoedit UV > export png (& jpg) > import all to Unity & looks great with edited textures at 8k resolution on mesh ....
Using Sketchfab exporter, I can upload the model/mesh but it doesn't upload the texture automatically and I can't get the manual import right ...
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? if you can access, the last upload is sitting unpublished on our account....
Hello!
Have you tried the 3ds Max Exporter plugin? It should be able to bake your materials into textures and upload automatically:

Hi,
I am not able to upload my models on your site. I get an UPLOAD ERROR. My net connection is working fine & model size is under 30MB.
Still no solution. The .zip is structured as mentioned on your website. Is there any server issue on sketchFab. Amazing thing was same
model could be uploaded using Photoscan software. But i need to upload directly on sketchfab without using any other utility. PLZ HELP
I tried it, but it is not possible, it has 420MB. If you have any advice, please. I deleted the texture.
@wkblack It only works with OBJ files, but if you include an empty file called "sketchfab.zbrush", we will concatenate all the OBJs into once scene. If you want to control materials individually, make sure to include all the MTL files too!
Ah great! I didn't catch the Lattice - indeed we don't support that.
@mikefilmguy - Hi Michael! If you use the "Re-Upload" feature, the URL will stay the same, so your links will still work. More details here:
https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/203064088-Re-upload-a-Model
@amit3d Can you send me a link to one of the failed uploads or the original file(s)? ( support@sketchfab.com )
James, I figured it out. It is the password!. I have to leave it blank. I thought it was require to log into my account through the exporter, but looks like the password is just for the private model.
Hello
I do not speak English. I'm sorry for mistakes.
I have a question, how long will it load 500MB?
I'm recording the 13 hours 420 mb model and nothing.
I am active PRO.
Thanks.
I'm having trouble trying to put a model together with the Original and the GLTF, I downloaded both of them and they're not being put together. How can I do it? Help me..
Hi there,
I just checked your last couple uploads, and the materials seem to be working as expected. Are you still having trouble?
Hello,
There seems to be a bug when you try and upload a model you've previously deleted. If I upload a model, wait for it to finish processing then delete it, then upload the same model again a few minutes later after making some changes/fixes it will give me an error message and say it's already processing the model even though there's nothing processing in my processing list. The model doesn't exist anywhere on my account. It's likely something to do with caching either with the server or browser.
It seems like you need to wait a long time before you it will let you upload the same model again which is a bit inconvenient.
Is it possible to combine multiple uploads together?
Or can I upload multiple (say .obj) files in one go and have them join together into the same model?
I have a few layers I want to merge with varying transparencies.
if the Speed of the Internet is low, for example, as I have 2m / bit, the download is interrupted, and I have to load textures of 4k size separately, which is dont convenient, if you made the timing of the delay a little more, then probably the error would have disappeared
免费用户是无法上传zip压缩包吗?一次只能渲染或导入一个模型吗?可以制作视频吗?
Two, three days ago, I reported a "error message" when uploading to the store! It will not save files at all! The model is within the file size limits! In the meantime, I somehow managed to save the model and publish it in the store, but I can't upload any additional files for that model at all? Upload stuck at 97-98%! Won't update or save the files. The problem seems to be only up to this model, since I tried on another, older model and everything works! Maybe I should try to upload the whole model again and delete this old one? But what about credits then?
@frekky12 - Great! You should be able to upload multiple textures simultaneously (just ctrl-click / shift-click to select them all), but you'll still have to apply them to the material slots one by one.
And yes, PSD should work when included in the upload, but not through the material editor dialog. Sorry for all the work arounds, but I'm glad you were able to squeeze into the file size limit!
I tried it, but it is not possible, it has 420MB. If you have any advice, please. I deleted the texture.
Почему нельзя загрузить просто файл (мах ) ? Неделю не могу ни чего найти что бы формат поменять на другой , и закинуть сюда свою работу.
Here such error takes off
