If some model a free model, then why it says author must be credited for commercial use?

  • James

Avishka - All free models on Sketchfab are provided by their authors under Creative Commons licenses. Under all of these licenses, you must credit the author when you use their work. Most allow commercial use (you must still credit the author), but some do not. See: https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/201368589-Downloading-Models#licenses

In my case, I'm new to this field and I don't have any income.i was just searched for completely free models in the sketchfab but didn't found.bt i saw some free models but those are not actually free (author must be credited things).in this case I don't even have money pay them and it's been two weeks now.don't know how create 3d models with blender or something like that.what should I do?

What is your project? What are you trying to use the models for? They don't cost any money, you just need to credit the author if you use their models (like if you made a video with the models and published, you should list where you got each model.

Oh my god!.is that it.i'm currently working in a unity Android game project.so I need animated models like weapons, solders, enymies and others.you know, for a game developer, it's not easy without those assets.

Thank you so much sir.before your explain, I thought I must pay the authors of free models after publishing my game into the Google play.that's the reason I was disappointed about sketchfab.but now my feeling is like "wow".😊
    Thank you very much.

One more question, i'll mention the names of the authors and the place where I got these models in the game's credits menu.is there any specific way to do that? How others do that? Any examples?

  • James

The credits menu would be perfect for that!

I think a list with the model name, author, and URL would be ok. Like:

"Fire Hydrant by James - https://skfb.ly/6IxUX"

    Hello,

I want to upload 3d models for sale on the Sketfab store. This is the only activity that I will be pursuing on the platform and nothing else. Can this be done with the free basic membership or do I need to purchase one of the plans in order to sell 3D models on Sketchfab?

    Hi there,

You do not need to purchase any particular plan to sell on the Sketchfab Store.

    Hello,

I still don't understand "one view-only model per month" part. Please CMIIW, is that i only limited to upload 1 model per month for a non-downloadable and non-selling 3D model? If i just want to upload as a portfolio to see the 3D within the client but not for download or selling.

    Thank you

    Hello,

    I'm sorry for the confusion.

Yes, models are only limited if they are non-downloadable and non-selling (i.e. you can "only view" them).

    Hi James,

I am wondering what the copyright/intellectual property terms of use are for creating illustrations using a 3D model on Sketchfab as reference (without purchase and download of the 3D model)? The illustrations are for a school assignment, not for commercial use.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

That sounds fine to use models on Sketchfab for drawing references, especially for non-commercial purposes. It's always nice to credit the original artist if you can though!

    Hello,

I use pro membership. After using it for a month, I found that I don’t need so many upload requirements, and I would like to downgrade to a free basic membership.

Question: When I downgrade to free basic membership, will this affect any files I uploaded and made public during pro membership?

By the way, the files size made public during pro membership are less than 50mb.

this is my email: lan@gmail.com, thanks for help :)

    Hello,

If the models are not using any Pro features (private,  >50 MB, custom backgrounds, >5 annotations, etc.), nothing will happen when you downgrade to the Free account. If they do use Pro features, they will become disabled (unless you make the available for download). You can read more about this here: https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016172711-Disabled-Models

    Hello James,

Im on Free Basic Plan. The models are impressive and I plan to use anatomy models in my website course. Can I use screen recording to record the model (non-free) in Sketchfab, and incorporate the recording into my course lesson video (which I will explain about the anatomy)?

Secondly, can I embed the viewer (non-free models) in Wordpress website without purchasing the license?

    Thank you.

    Hello jackchangyu

For non-free models, those use cases would not be allowed without purchasing the model. If you want to embed the model, you would need to purchase it and then re-upload it privately to your own account. For using images or recordings of the model in a course video, you would also need to purchase the model.

    Hello,

I just want to ask Why am I still only getting 1 upload/month instead of 10 uploads/month?

  • James

Sorry about that. We are running a script to update everyone's credits for the current month. I just reset yours manually.
