Scene tools are available in 3D Settings:
- From your model, click Edit 3D Settings or add "/edit" to the end of any model URL.
- Select the Scene panel in the top left.
Navigation and basic viewer options are identical to the regular model viewer.
General
The General settings let you control model orientation and rendering options:
Orientation
If you upload your model upside-down or sideways, you can adjust your orientation by 90° increments around the x-, y-, or z-axis.
Renderer
Switch the Renderer between PBR and Matcap.
PBR is usually the best choice.
MatCap ("material capture") is commonly used for sculpting. It is a quick and easy way to apply material and light reflection information to the whole model, to check its shape and normals. See Materials (MatCap).
Shading
Switch your Shading between Lit (default) and Shadeless.
Shadeless will remove the effects of any lights from your materials. This is often a good option for 3D scans, or models with baked lighting.
Camera
Field of View (FOV)
The Camera Field of View (FOV) is an angle representing the extent of the scene that is observable at one time. A FOV of 1° can be used if you need orthographic/parallel projection.
Near Clipping Distance
Enable Show advanced camera settings to access the Near clipping distance slider. Set a lower value when objects close to the camera are being clipped / cut off. This will also adjust the camera movement speed as appropriate.
Camera Limits
See Camera Limits.
Wireframe
In the Wireframe tab, you can add polygon wireframes to your model in any color and opacity.
Point Cloud
If your model is a point cloud, you can control the size of the points. See Point Clouds.
Vertex Colors
If your model has Vertex Colors, you can switch between linear and sRGB colorspaces depending on your needs. See Vertex Colors.
Background
You can change the background that appears behind your model. You can use a solid color, an image, or an 360° HDR environment.
You can remove it completely with the On/Off switch to make the background transparent.
Environment
- Defined by environmental lighting
- Pro, Premium, and Enterprise accounts can upload custom environments
- You can control the Blur level and Background brightness
- Ambient environment will use a super blurred version of the image. This is enabled by default
Image
Using an image as a background is a quick and easy way to brand the viewer with your logo or add supporting information.
- Basic accounts have a choice of four default backgrounds.
- Pro, Premium, and Enterprise accounts can upload custom backgrounds with the Import Background Image button.
- Supported formats: JPG/JPEG, PNG
- Maximum resolution: 1920px × 1920px
- Max file size: 4MB
- Not compatible with Depth of Field (DoF)
We automatically generate multiple versions of the image at different resolutions. The aspect ratio remains the same as the original, with widths at 1920, 1600, 1366, 1280, 1024, 640, and 480 pixels. When viewing the model page or an embedded viewer, we automatically choose the version that is closest in size to the viewer size. Keep in mind that the image will fill the viewport, so cropping may occur in the shorter direction if the viewport aspect ratio does not exactly match the image aspect ratio. So, avoid putting important information like text or logos too close to the edges unless you can guarantee the aspect ratio of the viewport will remain the same (for example, when embedded in your website). See below for some screenshots of how the background behaves depending on viewport aspect ratio.
Aspect ratio cropping
Square (Original)
Landscape
Portrait
Color
You can choose any color from the picker or enter a hexadecimal color code.
Saving
Once you've made your adjustments, including position and orientation, be sure to update your model's thumbnail image and default position with Save View and/or save your changes with Save Settings. You can return to your model by clicking either the model's name or Exit.

Sketchfab is an incredible website. Thanks to the developer. Btw, why my thumbnail is not showing the screenshot on other website like Facebook.
@khaledmahmud - Thanks! It might be a cache issue on Facebook's end. Have you tried this? https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/205642585-Facebook#cache
Guys, is it possible to see unity3d particles effects linked to 3d model in Sketchfab?
@craftworkmobile - We don't support particle effects yet, but some kind of animated point cloud might be possible. There is some discussion here: https://forum.sketchfab.com/t/point-cloud-animation/5764
Hi, it would be awesome if we could save scene settings presets to reuse in other models!
@rodolforubens - That's something we want to implement in the future! I'll add your '+1' to this feature request.
For now, we have a few experimental browser plugins: https://forum.sketchfab.com/t/post-processing-presets/1750
@James that's great to hear! Thanks!
Also, thanks for the browser plugin, I will take a look at it!
Cheers!!
+1 to choosing default scene settings. Checking out the extension now :)
@farmbot - Noted. Thanks for the feedback!
The improvement is interesting, could you please add degraded effects for colors?, thanks
Hi @institutoprima - could you give me an example and/or use-case?
Sure, I am talking of degradation of colors for the background only, taking advantage of the new function of change of colors for the background, thanks
I can't seem to get the viewer to comprehend where the center of my model is for orbit view. In the 3D settings it rotates around the center when I use the "Straighten Model" options, but it thinks the center to orbit the camera around is some random point far away, and sends my model flying off into space when I try to view the other side of it.
@matthew.r.b - Can you please send me a link to the model you're having trouble with? Usually, double-clicking the background will re-center the model, then you can click Save View to set that as the default position.
Hello James,
I've got a problem with the background, since i tried to change something in the background all my models are black, sometimes only on the thumbail and sometimes only the view, the problem appears background On or Off and with all web navigators. Uploading a new model give it all black too ! I would like to return all my models with the original background :-)
Best regards, Vincent
Hi Vincent,
Sorry about that! We're working on it.
James
You can add the default models turn up to a degree, the numbers rather than the mouse? Set the camera distancing from the model numbers for the conservation of various scale models?
@degit22 - Sorry, I don't understand your question.
@James I'm sorry, in the section "General" -> "Straighten model" model can be rotated 90 degrees. I want to rotate by 45° or 30°, any angle. In "advanced rotation" is difficult to set the exact angle.
@degit22 - Got it, thanks. Yes, that's a good idea.
Hey, just thought to add that I think It would be really nice to be able to move the model inside Sketchfab and not just rotate it.
Especially for the VR tab, I find many of my models are floating and the height setting, even at 0 is sometimes not enough to place the model on the ground.
So either moving the model or be able to go to minus height would solve this for the VR instead of re uploading.
And if one upload directly from photoscan it's almost impossible to align the model there.
Just a thought :)
@bez - Thanks for the feedback, I'm passing it on to the team. We hope to offer more interaction features in VR in the future.
I'm not sure I understand the PhotoScan issue. Have you tried "Advanced rotation" in 3D Settings? (See Orientation, above)
@james thanks for replaying,
The advanced rotation in sketchfab is totally fine (though I do agree with degit22 comment above about adding snap option)
I meant that in photoscan itself aligning the mesh is tricky and cumbersome. so if one upload directly from photoscan,
it would be nice to be able to move the mesh back to the ground plane in skecthfab so it would fit in VR as well.
i can't set a thumbnail to my models, every time I click the "save view" button, in 3d settings I get this message:
"save setting error
An unexpected error happened. The thumbnail has NOT been saved."
help, please
@envisnc - Sorry about that! We're aware of thumbnail saving issues and we are investigating.
Hi just wondering about the possibility of resetting the orbit center. If I move the model over to the side of the frame, it orbits around the center of the frame. I would like to make it so the center of the models mass is always the center of the orbit. Possible?
Hi @oldcastle.com - You can double-click the background to recenter the model, or double-click somewhere on the model to set the pivot point to that spot: https://help.sketchfab.com/hc/en-us/articles/202509026-Navigation-and-Controls#orbit
Can you turn specific models on/off in a large scene of models on Sketchfab? That would be super beneficial for my work. Let me know. Thanks!
@laurenulrey - Not natively in the regular viewer, but it's possible to hide, show, and edit parts of a scene with the Viewer API. Here are some resources and examples.
