Scene tools are available in 3D Settings:
- From your model, click Edit 3D Settings or add "/edit" to the end of any model URL.
- Select the Scene panel in the top left.
Navigation and basic viewer options are identical to the regular model viewer.
General
The General settings let you control things like model orienation and rendering options.
Orientation (Straighten Model)
You can change your Model orientation by 90° increments around the x-, y-, or z-axis.
Select Show advanced rotation to fine tune any axis at any angle. Typically, you want the top of your model or scene to match the blue "Up-Axis" of the coordinate system. This is usually the solution to upside down or sideways models.
Renderer
Switch the Renderer between PBR and Matcap.
PBR is usually the best choice.
MatCap ("material capture") is commonly used for sculpting. It is a quick and easy way to apply material and light reflection information to the whole model, to check its shape and normals. See Materials (MatCap).
Shading
Switch your Shading between Lit (default) and Shadeless.
Shadeless will remove the effects of any lights from your materials. This is often a good option for 3D scans, or models with baked lighting.
Camera
Field of View (FOV)
The Camera Field of View (FOV) is an angle representing the extent of the scene that is observable at one time. A FOV of 1° can be used if you need orthographic/parallel projection.
Near Clipping Distance
Enable Show advanced camera settings to access the Near clipping distance slider. Set a lower value when objects close to the camera are being clipped / cut off. This will also adjust the camera movement speed as appropriate.
Camera Limits
See Camera Limits.
Wireframe
In the Wireframe tab, you can add polygon wireframes to your model in any color and opacity.
Point Cloud
If your model is a point cloud, you can control the size of the points. See Point Clouds.
Vertex Colors
If your model has Vertex Colors, you can switch between linear and sRGB colorspaces depending on your needs. See Vertex Colors.
Background
You can change the background that appears behind your model, or remove it completely with the On/Off switch.
Environment
- Defined by environmental lighting
- Pro, Premium, and Business accounts can upload custom environments
- You can control the Blur level and Background brightness
- Ambient environment will use a super blurred version of the image. This is enabled by default
Image
Using an image as a background is a quick and easy way to brand the viewer with your logo or add supporting information.
- Basic and Plus accounts have a choice of four default backgrounds.
- Pro, Premium, and Business accounts can upload custom backgrounds with the Import Background Image button.
- Supported formats: JPG/JPEG, PNG
- Maximum resolution: 1920px × 1920px
- Max file size: 4MB
- Not compatible with Depth of Field (DoF)
We automatically generate multiple versions of the image at different resolutions. The aspect ratio remains the same as the original, with widths at 1920, 1600, 1366, 1280, 1024, 640, and 480 pixels. When viewing the model page or an embedded viewer, we automatically choose the version that is closest in size to the viewer size. Keep in mind that the image will fill the viewport, so cropping may occur in the shorter direction if the viewport aspect ratio does not exactly match the image aspect ratio. So, avoid putting important information like text or logos too close to the edges unless you can guarantee the aspect ratio of the viewport will remain the same (for example, when embedded in your website). See below for some screenshots of how the background behaves depending on viewport aspect ratio.
Aspect ratio cropping
Square (Original)
Landscape
Portrait
Color
You can choose any color from the picker or enter a hexadecimal color code.
Saving
Once you've made your adjustments, including position and orientation, be sure to update your model's thumbnail image and default position with Save View and/or save your changes with Save Settings. You can return to your model by clicking either the model's name or Exit.

Hi @anasugar - Can you please share the link to the model so I can take a look? Thanks!
Hi
I am using sketchfab to upload our building structure.
However when uploaded to sketchfab, we found out that the building was not located at the desired location, and always far from the center point and upside down.
We got to know we can fine tune the orientation in 3d settings by the X/Y/Z rotate and move the XY surface up/down with the blue arrow.
This almost fix the issue.
However, there is no way to move the objects with in XY surface or the green/red arrow?
Can anyone help with this?
Cheers
Ren
Hi
I just found out by double clicking the model will relocate the model to center. That can be a solution.
However it wont move the object to the center of the Coordinate Origin, but it works for the rotate issue.
Hi,
Yes, when you double-click the background it re-centers the model in the viewer based on the center of the model's bounding box. Can you send me a link to an example where it's still not behaving as you need it to?
Hello. I'm having trouble with my first upload from my profile; I chose the "Lit" shadows option, but it always shows the shadeless view... Can anyone help me? The link for the model is:

My sketchfab model viewer is not working correctly. It's showing model fine in the 3D editor and thumbnail,
but in the viewer it looks strange, don't know how to describe it but here's the picture. The model is fine in blender and unity and all transforms are applied. The model isn't published yet.
Hi there,
It's working ok on my end. Do you see the same issue in different browsers?
Hi,
I have the same issue regarding re-centering the 3d model, I've seen some people here talk about it, and James has been really helpful making sure that everything is solved. However, I have been uploading on SketchFab for a while now and never experienced this issue
So this time I was going to replace a 3D model, and it turned out to be extremely far away from the centre and above the ground, and I always 0 out all my transformations in my 3D software, but this time that happened, so I came here saw James solution (and before that, I had done that double-clicking thing to recenter the 3D model)
"Usually, double-clicking the background will re-center the model, then you can click Save View to set that as the default position."
Went back and did that again
But that doesn't seem to do what I really want it to do, I think it just zooms the model and centers the pivot point to it that's all but then I get this weird shading issues and camera clipping issues and Still not touching the ground cause the 3D model is far away.
I'm so sorry if I'm being a noob here but the double-clicking zooms on the object.
I need help with this.
Since you've added the Straighten Model that just rotates the objects, I think also a move tool would be nice? or something that really re-centers objects that are far.
Sorry for my bad English.
I think when I replace an fbx 3D model with any other format that's when I get that issue (I've explained above)
Hi Ken,
Is this the model? https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/2006-custom-land-rover-discovery-3-953972bf99d540cdbdf062d2a8809403
The method of double-clicking the background and saving view seems to work fine. Sorry if I misunderstood the problem. To fix the ground shadow, you'll need to go back into settings and adjust it to the new scale/position.
Hi James,
Thanks for the help,
Yes, that's the one. However, that doesn't seem to bring the object to the center it just takes us where the object is if that makes sense.
If you had tried to zoom on the model then you'd start to get
And I just realized that if I first had an FBX format then replaced it with a different format, the 3D model would move from the center.
Yes, you can fix the ground shadow by moving it up.
But I have managed to fix this by replacing that FBX 3D model with an FBX now. so that's fine but I think that might be a bug? I don't know.
If you were to do a FRESH upload of any format this problem won't happen (at least for me not yet). But if you are replacing 3D Models with different formats from the first upload, that's where this problem occurs, and double clicking zooms us to the object but not recentering it.
How do I manually set the centre for the model in Skeychfab? Recently when I upload a model, Sketchfab is not detecting the correct centre/origin - so I can't view or rotate my model properly - it ends up too far away and off-screen. Never encountered this problem before .Thanks.
Hi hyakudojo - usually you just need to double-click the background (or press space bar) to re-center the model, then click Save View. Can you share a link to a model with the problem? Did you re-upload it?
Thank you. In the end I deleted the model and re-upoaded it. Worked perfectly second time round. It wasn't just the view, it was the way it rotated around the model, as if the camersa pivot-point was anchored somewhere around mile in the distance (it looked like panning instead of rotation whenever I moved the model - if that makes sense).
Hmm ok! If you see it again, let me know!
Thank you, will do.
Hi, is there a tool on Sketchfab 3D settings for a 3D model to control the boundaries and to limit the visitors walk inside a delimited room or space?
Thank you in advance
Cris
