    Hi,

This is due to changes on Facebook's side. They are in control of how they display different kinds of links. Sometimes Sketchfab embeds work correctly, but sometimes it's just a thumbnail + link.

It seems after sharing to Facebook, there is NO full width preview images by default anymore. Instead, you have to click the "play" button in this tiny preview and then it switches to full width. That is really unfortunate. I hope someone can explain if there is a workaround to this. Thanks!

    Hi Adam,

I'm afraid that's all controlled by Facebook. We have no control (and very little insight) into how they decide to display different kinds of links/previews. We've found that it can change from link to link, person to person, and day to day, as they constantly adjust.

I have been trying this for ages and with different models. Can anyone offer some guidance? Could anyone let me know a link that does post correctly on facebook? Are there any workarounds to getting this to work? Could I download the file in some sort and upload it to facebook.

    Hi Stuart,

Please see my reply to Adam, just above this. It's all done on Facebook's end, we don't really have any control over how they decide to display a particular link.

Maybe Sketchfab can put a bug in Facebook's ear though. After all, a 3D model viewer is a cool thing to have on a social platform (unless Facebook has their own competing 3D app, which I'm not aware of). You can post huge, full-post-width 3D photos on FB, but Sketchfab links wind up looking like tiny YouTube links. I can understand the deliberately diminutive links for YouTube, because they're competing with FB as a video platform. But for Sketchfab, that doesn't really make any sense. I hope Sketchfab can encourage FB to partner with them in this.

Thank you James. I had already seen your earlier response. I also ask for a work around. Or an example of a link that is working as you stated. Thanks.

We are in conversation with Facebook pretty regularly, and we'll keep mentioning the issue to them. They do have their own 3D viewer, so it's tricky.

I couldn't find a working post immediately, but I'll dig around. Even then, the same post might be displayed differently for different people viewing it.

We've stopped relying on it even for posts on our own page: https://www.facebook.com/Sketchfab/posts/
