NUBIGON is a desktop-based reality capture software for advanced point cloud visualization and 3D modeling. Rendering point clouds of any size at full resolution in real-time, it enables users to produce immersive virtual environments and quickly extract as-built models. Users can enrich point clouds with lights, shadows, annotations, other mesh models and CAD drawings for demonstration purposes or interactively model in the point clouds with real-time validation.
Uploading to Sketchfab
While NUBIGON specializes in full-res visualization of point clouds on local devices, it also features a direct integration to Sketchfab to easily upload point clouds to the web. Here is a step-by-step description of the workflow:
1. Open point clouds of any size in NUBIGON, File > Open Point Cloud(s) (*)
2. Decimate point cloud, Tools > Point Cloud > Decimation. Set the target point count to the desired level. This will vary based on your Sketchfab membership and the level of detail you would like to preserve. Sketchfab recommends less than 5M for hi-res models and 1-2M for low-res models to be viewed on mobile devices and VR headsets.
If your dataset has less than 5M points, you can typically skip decimation.
3. Select the point cloud from the Object List and launch the Sketchfab Exporter from the toolbar.
4. Input your Sketchfab API Token, set the model properties, and upload! Beware, if you don't toggle the "Draft" field, your model will be published publicly on Sketchfab. If you have a Sketchfab Pro membership (or above), you can mark your model as private and optionally add a password to keep your model protected. For more details on private models, see Model Visibility.
Once uploaded to Sketchfab, you can edit the display and the properties of your point cloud. Please refer to the background reading on point clouds on Sketchfab. If you encounter any issues, you can reach NUBIGON directly at info@nubigon.com!
