Google Poly, the 3D model sharing site from Google, will be shutting down on June 30, 2021 and will no longer allow new uploads to their site as of April 30, 2021. We have connected with the Google team to build a solution to transfer models from Poly to Sketchfab: Poly-to-Sketchfab.
Why did you make Poly to Sketchfab?
We believe in making 3D easy to access and share for everyone. When we learned that Google was planning to close Poly, we decided to help our fellow 3D artists keep their work online and built this app for them.
We've been in touch with the Poly team and they support this initiative.
How does it work?
Connect the Poly-to-Sketchfab app to both your Google Poly and Sketchfab accounts.
Then, we will show you a list of models that we will copy. You can deselect the ones that you don't need or want to transfer.
Then, click Start the Upload Process button. You don't need to keep the website open after that. You can check the upload progress on your Sketchfab profile, and you will receive an email for each when they finish if you enable the "When my uploaded model has finished processing" notification setting.
Why are you asking for my personal information when I connect to Poly?
We are asking for the bare minimum of information that we need to import your models. You can remove the connection later.
How long will it take to copy my models?
This is hard to predict exactly, but copying and processing one model should only take a few minutes. The more models you copy, the longer the process will take. If specific models fail to transfer, you can try to transfer again one at a time.
Can you copy all the content from my Poly account to Sketchfab?
Unfortunately, no. We're not able to copy your Tilt Brush or Tour Creator (360° photographs) models. Other types of models should be transferable.
You can still publish your Tilt Brush work to Sketchfab using the built-in Sketchfab Exporter.
Publishing your models
Once we have copied your models, they'll be in Draft mode and you will have 30 days to publish them. Draft models are automatically deleted after 30 days.
If you're on Sketchfab's free Basic plan, you can publish as many models as you need, as long as you either make them downloadable or put them up for sale on the Sketchfab Store. If you'd rather not do that, our paid plans provide more generous publishing limits as well as additional features.
Why doesn't my model look exactly like it does on Poly?
The Sketchfab viewer is different from Poly's and your model may need some tweaking to get it to look the same in both viewers. You can fine-tune your model's orientation, lighting, materials, post-processing, and much more using our powerful 3D Editor.
My app needs to import or export 3D content. Can I use Sketchfab?
Of course! We have several REST APIs available that will help with this, like our Data API (for uploading or changing existing models) and our Download API. We also have a Developers Community on our Forum and a Community Discord server.
