Steam is a distribution system and social network for games. You can embed Sketchfab models in the Steam Store and Steam Workshop.

Steam Store

The Steam Marketplace is the premier place for game developers to sell their games, tools, mods, and content. Now you can embed Sketchfab 3D models on Steam Store Pages.

Adding 3D Models to your description

You can add 3D models to your Steam Store description by pasting the Sketchfab model URL in "URL tags".

Steam Workshop

The Steam Workshop is a place for game developers to upload and share their user generated assets and mods for games on Steam. Now you can set up your Steam Store Page with Sketchfab 3D models.

Setting up your Workshop Item

Head over to your owner controls. Here you can add and remove models. Your models will appear below the item description.

Adding 3D models to discussions or announcements

You can add 3D models to both discussions and announcements by simply pasting in a Sketchfab model URL.

You don't need the URL tags, just paste the raw URL.

Pro Tips

It's important to let people know:

  • What game is this for?

  • What is the link to the Steam asset?

  • What does this asset include?

Tag your game content correctly

Properly tagging your game assets ensures your work is easy to find, feature, and organize across platforms:

  1. Centralizes Content: Helps keep your 3D models organized on Sketchfab.

  2. Increases Visibility: Enables Sketchfab to feature and promote your work on their platform and to gaming publications.

  3. Tagging Best Practices:

    • Add a tag for the specific Steam section (e.g., steamworkshop or steamstore).

    • Add a tag for the full name of the game (e.g., dota2 or payday2).
