Converting Other 3D Model Formats

Reference guide for converting unsupported 3D model formats and CAD files for compatibility with Sketchfab uploads.

We support lots of formats, and add more whenever we can.

However, there are so many 3D file formats from so many different sources that sometimes they will have to be converted before uploading to Sketchfab.

.3DM

OpenNURBS Initiative 3D Model (used by Rhinoceros 3D)

Use Rhino to export a supported format. Recommended: OBJ + MTL

.C4D

Cinema 4D file

Use the Cinema 4D Exporter, or use Cinema 4D to export a supported format. Recommended: FBX

CATPart / CATProduct

CATIA files

Use CATIA to export a supported format. Recommended: STL, WRL. Or export a CAD format like STEP or IGS, then use other CAD software to convert to a supported format.

.EASM / .SLDASM / .SLDDRW / .SLDPRT

SolidWorks files

Use one of our SolidWorks workflows.

.FMZ

FormZ Project file

Use the FormZ Exporter, or use FormZ to export a supported format. Recommended: OBJ + MTL

.IAM / .IDW / .IPT

Autodesk Inventor files

.LXO

Luxology MODO file

Use the Modo Exporter, or use Modo to export a supported format. Recommended: FBX

.MA / .MB

Maya ASCII & Maya Binary files

Use the Maya Exporter, or use Maya to export a supported format. Recommended: FBX

.MAX

Autodesk 3D Studio Max (3ds Max) file

Use the 3ds Max Exporter, or use 3ds Max to export a supported format. Recommended: FBX; OBJ + MTL

.PLN

ArchiCAD project file

Use ArchiCAD to export a supported format. Recommended: 3DS

.RVT

Revit project file

.SHP

GIS geospatial vector shapefile

Use the BlenderGIS add-on to import the SHP file into Blender, then use the Sketchfab Blender add-on to upload to Sketchfab, upload the .BLEND file directly, or export and upload a supported format such as OBJ.

.SKP

Google / Trimble SketchUp file

Use the SketchUp Exporter, or use SketchUp to export a supported format. Recommended: OBJ + MTL (SketchUp Pro); FBX (SketchUp Pro); Collada/DAE (SketchUp free)

.STP/STEP

Standard for the Exchange of Product model data

Use CAD software to export a supported format. Recommended: OBJ + MTL
